When it comes to landscaping, opportunities abound. Whatever your desire or vision, when it comes to landscaping, the possibilities are endless when you work with Walnut Creek Landscaping.
The key decision is how much time do you want to commit to the project. It’s a little-known secret in the world of landscaping, but listen-you don’t have to do everything in one day. Once you’ve set your mind loose on a certain project and love what you’re doing, it can be hard to stop. As creative as you are, it’s easy to get carried away and start ordering all kinds of things.
Hard work is rewarded, hard work is enjoyable, and hard work can leave you with nothing to show for your efforts.
Some of the most rewarding landscaping jobs I’ve ever had involved building and installing a chain-link fence on the front side of my property across the front of my house. It took all of 15 minutes on a crisp fall morning. The fence is nothing fancy, but it’s a do-it-yourself project that was fun to do; I’d recommend it to anybody. And I saved a great deal of money doing it. It was a little over $200 after all of the materials were marked out and made, including buying the chain link fencing.
If you’re in the market for a new fence, chances are you’ll want to start by looking at your space and thinking about whether you’re willing to put in the work to make a beautiful, long-lasting fence.
The next thing you need to think about is how you want the fence to look. Do you want a mature, tall, low fence with plants hedges running along the top? Or do you want a simple metal fence with plants all around the bottom? Ever seen a chain-link fence and thought, “this is so simple”? It’s okay to have plain fences, but you’ll want to have a certain look at the interior of the fence before you go out and buy chain link fencing.
Chain link fencing is relatively easy to make, but you’ll need to shape it to fit your property. Dig a trench with a flat end shovel, removing the bottom few inches of soil. Put a fence mat in the trench and nail the chain links in. Use wood to leave a large enough opening so you can step through and pry the chain links apart. That’s how you make a simple chain link fence.
A little more involved than that, you’ll also need to dig in the soil a bit where your chain link fence is going to stand. You’ll need to make sure the soil is well saturated with water. Chain link fencing will expand if you use water to pack it into the trench. You’ll also need to feed the soil and maintain the plants. You don’t want to use all of those nice fertilizers in your newly laid fence! You can use mulching to conserve water and prevent weeds. Grass likes dill, corn, and sorghum, to name a few, so those are the types of plants you want to consider for your chain link fence.
You may want to apply some concentrates that are made of both clay and sand to your newly laid chain link fence. This will give the fence a dark color and also help to keep the weeds out.
Another option is to use wood chips, but they must be fresh. The chips will expand and then you need to mix them with the soil. Again, this is best done with hands.
Chain link fencing is an excellent choice for your garden, but you’ll need to show a little patience on the project. It will take a little while for the fence to be built up enough to repel the critters. Once the fence is in place you’ll only need to make sure it stays maintained, watered, and weeded.
